In a recent story, it said that Jon Gosselin just filed legal papers asking for primary custody and child support of his eight children. Jon says he will continue to press on with the case unless Kate gives up her "global commitments." He is probably referring to Kate's participation in dancing with the stars. "Jon feels Kate can't have it both ways -- being both a star and an attentive parent." Jon also feels Kate is "addicted to the paparazzi." He says even if Kate is booted from "Dancing with the Stars" on Tuesday, he won't drop his custody case because Kate is "caught up in the glamour of Hollywood" and will take other jobs.
In my opinion both Kate and Jon are too fixated on being celebrities and need to focus more on their children.
I also think that being celebrities is what tore their relationship apart. Everyone relationship has issues but when you have private issues that become public you have millions of people commenting and making the situation worse. I think this is a prime example of the negative effects being a celebrity can have on people.

I think that is an excellent point. One of the downfalls of being a celebrity is that everyone knows everything about you, even things that may not be true. Your life is no longer your own, but it becomes everyone's business. Similar to Kate, Sandra Bullock's husband, Jesse James, cheated on her and it is all over the media. Sandra and Jesse don't have kids so it's probably easier for them to cope with their problems, but I cant still imagine that it is very difficult.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with both of you. It would have been a lot easier for Jon and Kate to cope with their issues if they hadn't had to deal with everyone else's opinions and thoughts on their problems. To this end though, I am a strong believer in personal choice and I believe Jon and Kate did this to themselves. They are not the first example of a couple that has been ruined by their celebrity status. Whitney Houston and her husband have had similar issues.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Bergen, almost all celebrities that have aired their relationship and personal lives on TV have ended up in turmoil or divorce. This is mostly because they are trying to project a certian image to the public and by doing so they hide their real feelings and actions and don't address issues they would if cameras were not around. Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey have said that their relationship was exposed to a great deal of stress as a result of being on TV because they would try to not fight on TV, instead anytime they felt an argument coming on they would go into a room where the cameras couldn't follow them and argue. This isn't healthy for a relationship, and ultimately the decision of many reality stars to air their lives on TV and incorporate a film crew into their personal lives has had sever consequences and has led to the demise of many relationships.
